Charles Foster Obituary

Charles “Chuck” H. Foster, 94, passed away Oct. 21, 2022, at Primrose Retirement Community in Mishawaka, IN. He was born December 5, 1927, in Elkhart, IN, to the late Henry and Earline Foster.

On June 12, 1971, he married Patricia (Pat) Brennan.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Pat, daughters Pamela VanRie (Wally) of Anderson, IN; Julie Moss (Randy) of Zionsville, IN; Cathy Skipper (Jagadey) of Elkhart, IN; and Carolyn Queener of Union, MI; son, Sidney L. Foster of Chicago, IL; a daughter-in-law, Christine Foster of Goodyear, AZ; two stepchildren, Amanda Abel of Israel; and James Brennan (Audra) of Mishawaka, IN; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernard Foster of Elkhart, IN, and David Foster (Karen) of Mishawaka, IN; and a sister, Barbara Lewallen of Goshen, IN. A son, Timothy Foster, and grandson, Patrick Lerner, also preceded him in death.

Upon graduation he joined the Navy and served for two years. He spent 15 months at sea aboard the USS Achomawi ATF48 which was directly involved in the two atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll.

After returning from the service, he spent two years as an apprentice carpenter with Sollitt Construction Co. He then worked for H.G. Christman Construction Co. for 23 years, the last 8 years as a general superintendent. Chuck and Pat relocated to Tucson, AZ, as Chuck took a position with E.I. Brown Co. of Indianapolis to build a convention hotel along with a longtime partner and estimator Arthur Bruggeman. They remained in Tucson and provided Construction Management services for clients in Tucson and on a coast-to-coast basis for 20 years. Chuck retired at the end of November 1992.

Chuck was a member of The Southern Arizona Old Time Fiddler Association. He loved entertaining his friends and family playing the fiddle.

After living in Arizona for 32 years, Chuck and Pat moved back home to Indiana to be with family and friends in 2003 where they lived in Granger, IN. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family. Chuck was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, IN.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 6:00 PM at Palmer Funeral Home - Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with family from 4:00 PM until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made in Charles’ name to Southern Hospice, 1626 E. Day Road Mishawaka, IN 46545.
