Charlotte Harris Obituary

Charlotte Rosalyn Harris (Morrison), age 91, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana with her daughter and son by her side. She was born on July 12, 1934, in Liberty, Missouri, the daughter of Mattie Laura (Robinson) and Fifer Benjamin Morrison. Her family moved to Denver, Colorado, where she and her older brother, Jack, grew up and went to school.

Rosalyn attended the University of Colorado where she enjoyed more independence, made new friends, and became a member of the prestigious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

In 1957, Rosalyn married Chester Glenn Harris, whom she had dated since high school, while he was in medical school. They moved to New York city where Glenn completed his medical internship. Rosalyn loved living in the big city where they attended Broadway shows, foreign films, concerts, Radio City Music Hall and other venues. They returned to Denver for Glenn’s residency where they started their family and had their son Daryl and daughter Lisa. The family moved to and resided in Wichita Falls, Texas, for two years before finally settling in South Bend, Indiana.

Rosalyn was devoted to her children and volunteered in their school libraries, acted as Room Mother, accompanied various classes on field trips, designed and created costumes for her son’s school plays, attended every sporting event, and participated in many other activities. She even helped her daughter improve her sports skills by practicing with her after school and taking her to various sports camps and competitions. This devotion continued with her grandchildren.

Rosalyn was an outdoors enthusiast and loved hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, and mushroom hunting with the family. She also loved Lake Michigan and the ocean, learned how to downhill and cross-country ski, played racquetball with friends, joined a country line dancing group, and took tai chi and yoga classes. Rosalyn also loved to travel and took many trips around the United States, to London, France, Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean. She would also get in the car and drive around the region, exploring towns in northern Indiana, Southwest Michigan, and the Lake Michigan shore.

Rosalyn shared her love and talent for cooking and baking with family and friends. She collected a wide variety of recipes from the newspaper, magazines, cookbooks and television which inspired her to make delicious meals,

international dishes, and tasty treats that she would whip up seemingly at a moment's notice. Both Daryl and Lisa have been inspired by her and love to cook and bake, as do her grandchildren Ian and Annadele.

Rosalyn was very people-oriented, making fast friends everywhere she went. This carried over into community involvement as her children grew older when she volunteered with the Medical Auxiliary, the Broadway Theatre League, VNA and the Symphony Guild. She also continued her education by taking various classes at IUSB and Ivy Tech, where she proudly earned her Associates Degree.

Rosalyn’s professional experience spanned many roles, including working as a US government punch card programmer in New York City and a transcriptionist with a court reporting firm in South Bend. Rosalyn retired in 2005 after working just over 10 years with the University of Notre Dame as a Development Research Assistant. Rosalyn never stopped learning after retirement by taking art classes through local continuing education programs. She also focused on staying active at local fitness venues.

Rosalyn was preceded in death by her parents Mattie Laura (Robinson) and Fifer Benjamin Morrison, her stepfather Joseph Jones, her older brother Jack Morrison and Sister-in-Law Vivian Morrison, her Nephew Michael Morrison and ex-husband Glenn Harris.

Rosalyn is survived by her son Daryl (Jennielea), her daughter Lisa, grandchildren Ian Harris and Dr. Annadele Harris (Conlin Durbin), niece Sharon (Tony) Parker and family, and niece Deborah Morrison and family.

She will be greatly missed by many whose lives she touched.

The family will hold a private celebration of her life and respectfully suggest memorial contributions be directed to VNA, Hospice organizations, and environmental causes.
