Cheryl Anderson Obituary

Cheryl Lynn Anderson of South Bend, Indiana passed away surrounded by her four children on Sunday, March 22nd. After eight pugnacious years, Cheryl's battle with cancer officially ends in a draw. She was a miracle to many, beating the odds time after time, and now she rests after a job well done.

Cheryl was the spark before the fireworks born July 3rd, 1977, in South Bend, Indiana to Ida and Silous Anderson, Sr. The youngest of 5 siblings, Cheryl spent the early part of her childhood posing for family polaroids, waiting for Michael Jackson videos to debut on MTV, and getting into friendly mischief on Twyckenham Drive with her niece Chantell Barnhill and older brother Leonardo Anderson. By the time she graduated from South Bend John Adams in 1995, Cheryl had embarked on the world building duty of motherhood having brought Deserai Alexander and Edward Alexander Jr into the world.

She excelled in both her professions and passions garnering a reputation for friendly conversation, beautiful singing voice, and her servitude to her church St. Paul's Gospel Mission. She worked hard to support her family, but she knew that one's life is not measured in plaques and recognitions that collect dust through the decades. She lived for the moment, prioritizing how to savor each day to the fullest. Her commutes were often occupied with the good catching-up with friends and loved ones, a stop at a new lunch spot, a few errands that spill over into the casual, uninterrupted shopping that at times tormented her youngest boys patience. She volunteered her children to the church, keeping them busy with recitals, summer camps, sports, and clubs. Her ideal weekends were impromptu hangouts with her sister Luvenure, catching a good movie and then discussing it afterwards, and waking up without the pressure of an alarm clock. She enjoyed her audiobooks and her journals were often decorated in quotes, poetry, scriptures, and endless lists to be addressed another day.

Her life did not pause when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2018. She did not flinch when she was told it was stage 4. She took the challenge head on and pursued treatments and leaned on her network for support. Her strength in the Lord was revitalized, and enjoyed family vacations, curated new experiences, and shared her spark for life with the world around her. Her joy was contagious. It penetrated her darkest days and ignited the world around her with laughter, good times, and song.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ida and Silous L. Anderson, Sr., her sister, Luvenure Barnhill, her brother Delmonte Anderson, and nephew Michael Anderson.

She leaves behind her children Deserai (Daniel) Alexander,  Edward (Sabiha) Alexander Jr., Bryce Anderson, Bassel Neal II, her brothers Silous Anderson, Jr. and Leonardo Anderson, and a host of nieces and nephews
