Daniel Gearhart Obituary

Daniel James Gearhart, age 79, of Buchanan, MI, passed away on June 15, 2026. Daniel was born in South Bend, Indiana on April 9, 1947.

He was the beloved son of the late James Gearhart and the late Maryanne (Tansey) Gearhart. Daniel lived a life marked by devotion to his family, steady work, and a quiet appreciation for the simple pleasures that made each day meaningful. He was known by those who loved him as a dependable, thoughtful, and hardworking man whose presence brought comfort and strength to those around him.

Daniel attended Purdue University for his undergraduate studies and later earned his MBA from IUSB, building a strong educational foundation that supported his professional life. He went on to become the owner of Shaner Accounting, where he worked as a CPA and served clients with integrity, skill, and care. Through his work, he earned the respect of colleagues and the trust of many who relied on his guidance.

Beyond his career, Daniel found joy in the outdoors and in the peaceful routines of everyday life. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and hunting, and he especially valued time spent outside maintaining his property in Granger before later moving to Buchanan, Michigan. These interests reflected the steady and grounded nature that defined him. He appreciated hard work, fresh air, and the satisfaction that came from caring for the places and people he loved.

Family was central to Daniel’s life. He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Roberts) Gearhart, who shared in his life’s journey and stood beside him through the years. He was a proud father to Andrew Gearhart and his wife, Alyson, and to Daniel Gearhart II and his wife, Melissa. He was also a loving grandfather to Isla, Summer, Jocelyn, and Anderson, each of whom brought him great joy and pride. His family will remember him for his steady encouragement, his quiet humor, and the example he set through his actions.

He is also survived by his sisters, Jean Givler and her husband, Mike, Rita Strefling and her husband, Richard, and Rosie Grimes and her husband, Tom. Daniel’s family circle was one of deep affection, and he will be remembered with love by all who knew him.
