Daniel Jerret Hardman

November 17, 1946 ~ September 8, 2023 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Obituary

Daniel Jerret Hardman passed away peacefully on September 8, 2023, in his beloved hometown of South Bend. Born on November 17, 1946, to the late Marion and Genieve "Mickey" (Yacks) Hardman, Daniel's life was characterized by a deep love for his family, his community, and his country.

Daniel is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Joan P. (Miller) Hardman, whom he married on October 2, 1971, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Their love story was the foundation of a large and loving family that includes their 6 children, Denise (Bob) Sonneborn, Debbie (Steve) Grossnickle, Michele (Dennis) Badur, Robb (Mary) Hardman, Lisa (Scott) Higbee, and Dan Hardman. Daniel was a proud grandfather to 19 grandchildren and an even prouder great-grandfather to 27 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Susan (Kim) Hammons, and was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Hardman.

Daniel's work ethic was as strong as his love for his family. He spent 30 years as a truck driver  before retiring in 2004. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his community. Daniel served as the Previous Post Commander of VFW Post #360, demonstrating his enduring dedication to his fellow veterans. His civic engagement also included terms as the former president of the Clay Democratic Club and the Vietnam Veterans of Michiana.

Beyond his work and community involvement, Daniel had a zest for life that was infectious. He was a passionate Notre Dame football fan, a loyalty that was as unwavering as his love for his hometown. He was also a keen angler who loved nothing more than spending hours on his pontoon on Waldron Lake, fishing rod in hand. But above all, Daniel was a family man with a big heart. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service.
