Daniel Dale Shirley, 50, passed away April 9, 2026 with his loving mother and father at his side.
Dan was born on February 11, 1976 in South Bend, to Kenneth Wayne and Jerri Karlene (Emmons) Shirley of Lakeville, Ind.
Dan’s life centered around the love of his son, Ara, 8. He loved challenging his curious mind, showing him all that life had to offer, and giving him the best foundation for living a good life. Dan will be remembered by his family for how much he loved his son. He and his former wife, Olivia talked everyday to make sure their son was well cared for.
A graduate of Butler University and LaVille Jr. Sr. High School, Dan was an avid sports fan, playing college football at Butler, and leading his hometown team to many victories during his high school years as a tough-nosed lineman. He worked throughout his career in home improvement and building supplies, leading teams and building close friendships.
A friend to many, Dan’s spirit, heart of gold and fun nature touched so many lives, sincerely being a great friend and confidant. Despite the ups and downs of life, no one ever questioned his deep love for his family, cousins, extended family and friends as witnessed by the generous outpouring of support for Dan during his last days.
Dan loved to cook, famous for his bread pudding and smoked meats, he was always one step ahead of foods that were good for the soul. Besides hanging out with his son Ara, mushroom hunting, music, and his furry friends were amongst his favorite things.
Dan is survived by his son Ara Shirley, his father and mother, Kenneth and Jerri Shirley, and his brother Kenneth (Jessica) Shirley, and nephew, Maxwell, and niece Neoma. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Mary (Max) Shirley.
