David Lee McCracken, born on May 30, 1949, in Vienna, Austria, passed away on July 12, 2026, in South Bend, Indiana, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well lived.
David lived a life marked by devotion to God, deep love for his family, and a steady kindness that touched everyone who knew him. He was the beloved husband of Linda Lee McCracken and a devoted father to Erin McCracken; Sean McCracken; Clint Prong and his wife, Heather; Nathan Prong and his wife, Donna; and Paul Prong and his wife, Emma. He was also a proud grandfather to Ethan, Luke, Christian, Jakin, and Abigail Dixon and her husband, Josh. He is also remembered by his brother, Steve McCracken, and was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Winnie McCracken, and his brother, Phillip McCracken.
David’s life reflected a quiet strength and a generous spirit. He received some college education and went on to serve through his work with the State of California Department of Transportation, where he held a supervisory role. In his professional life, he was known for his reliability, leadership, and commitment to doing his work well. Those who worked alongside him knew him as a man of integrity who carried himself with humility and respect.
Faith was central to David’s life. He was a member of Vineyard Church and answered a calling to pastor services at the West Bend and Briarcliff nursing homes. Through this ministry, he brought comfort, encouragement, and the message of hope to many. He served others with a shepherd’s heart and found joy in sharing his faith with those who needed it most. His life was a testimony to his belief in God’s grace and his desire to live in service to others.
David was also known for the warmth he showed in everyday life. He was a man who “hugged everyone,” and that simple expression of affection reflected the openness and love that defined him. He had a gift for making others feel welcome and valued. His family and friends will remember his loving nature, his faith-filled spirit, and the steady presence he offered in every season of life.
In his quieter moments, David enjoyed gardening, finding satisfaction in nurturing life and watching things grow. That love of tending the earth mirrored the care he gave to his family, his church, and his community. He approached life with patience and devotion, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and steadfast love.
David Lee McCracken will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family, as well as in the lives of the many people he encouraged, comforted, and embraced throughout his years. He will be remembered as a loving and faith-filled man whose life was a blessing to others.
Keeping with David wishes, cremation will take place, and no formal service will be held.
