It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Delores Brown a long-time resident of Buchanan, Michigan on January 27, 2026, at West Wood of Niles. She was a beacon of unwavering love and compassion. Born to Jesse and Edna Finney on June 21, 1931. Delores lived a captivating and memorable life filled with empathy and kindness. Her spirit touched the lives of those around her, spreading warmth to all.
Delores was a dedicated worker. She spent many years as a childcare provider and offering friendly service as a cashier in the retail industry, before her well-earned retirement. She was a past member of the Polish National Alliance, (PNA) and the Moose Lodge. Her compassionate nature and engaging personality made her a cherished member. Outside of her work and community involvement Delores found joy in the rhythm of crochet needles and the thrill of a good bingo game. These hobbies reflected her patience and competitive spirit.
Delores was the loving mother to daughter, Vicki (Roger) McWilliams; sons, Todd Brown and Donald (Jan) Jones; grandchildren, Sarah (Jeff) Mattingly, Jody (Eric) Ostrander, Jay (Margrette) McWilliams, Gabrielle Brown, Michael (Laura) Bucks, Steven Bucks, Dustin (Dalal) Axe, Chris (Grace) Axe, and Chad Axe; and her adored great-grandchildren, Cheryl (Mike) Burrell, Casey (Paige) Mattingly, Zach (Heather) Mattingly, Cody Mattingly, Caden Mattingly, Jaxon Ostrander, Claire McWilliams, Liam McWilliams, Elise (Bob) Bella, and Dylan (Katie) Ostrander. She was a great great grandmother to many. Each of these individuals found comfort and strength in Delores’ love and guidance, and her memory will continue to inspire them. As Alfred Lord Tennyson once wrote, “I am a part of all that I have met,” and Delores’ spirit truly lives on in those she loved and who loved her.
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Brown; sister, Edna Mae Brown; daughter, Linda Younkin; son, Ronald Jones; granddaughter, Kimberly White; and great-grandchildren, Shelby and Gracie Mattingly and Weston Mattingly. Her loss is felt deeply, but her family takes comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones who passed before her.
Funeral services for Delores will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Palmer Funeral Home – Hoven Chapel, 414 E Front Street Buchanan, MI. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Delores will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in South Bend.
