Donald "Davie" Mpinganjira Obituary

In a world that sometimes feels dark, there walked a bright light. Donald “Davie” Chisale Mpinganjira lived a life shaped by journey, faith, devotion, and quiet strength. Born on January 10, 1982, in Blantyre, Malawi, to Alex Mpinganjira and Stella Kapanga, Davie carried his roots with him wherever life took him, grounding his family in a deep sense of faith, heritage, resilience, and purpose. Davie's journey took him to England to continue his education, and then with his best friend, Sydney, he moved to South Bend, Indiana in 2008.

Davie moved through the world with intention, listening more than he spoke, caring deeply for the people he loved, and showing up when it mattered most. His life was not measured simply in years, but in the way he made others feel seen, supported, and valued.

In 2020, Davie was diagnosed with cancer. He faced this journey with remarkable courage and grace. Even while quietly battling his own illness, Davie devoted himself to helping others navigate their cancer journeys, offering encouragement, understanding, and hope. His strength was never loud, but it was profound, touching countless lives.

Davie’s faith in God was central to who he was, and he lived it openly and wholeheartedly. His trust in God guided his life, sustained him through hardship, and gave him peace throughout his journey. Though his time on earth was far too short, the blessings of his life were many—seen in the love he shared, the faith he lived, and the lives he changed.

Above all else, Davie was a devoted family man. He shared a loving life with his wife, Courtney, and was an extraordinary and deeply devoted father to his daughter, Emma. Davie met Courtney when they both worked at AJ Wright in 2009, and he quickly knew she was the one he would marry. During their courtship, he lovingly showered her with thoughtful gifts that she would often find waiting on her car after work, small but meaningful gestures that reflected his deep affection. On March 26, 2011, Davie and Courtney were married in South Bend, beginning a beautiful life together filled with love, unity, and commitment. In 2019, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Emma, who became the center of their world and a true source of joy. As a couple, and later as a family, they shared a love for traveling across the country and creating cherished memories together. Taking their beloved “Princess Emma” to Disney World, Gatlinburg, and the Dominican Republic were among the many treasured highlights of their family adventures.

Davie delighted in making memories with Emma, especially at Halloween, when he loved dressing up to surprise her before the family headed out trick-or-treating together. He and Emma also cherished attending daddy-daughter dances, moments that reflected their close bond and brought him immense joy.

Davie would do whatever he could to make Emma and Courtney happy. He spent countless hours poolside during Emma’s swim practices and meets, faithfully present and endlessly supportive. Davie volunteered at swim meets and could always be found cheering—not only for Emma, but for every child in the pool, encouraging each one with the same warmth and enthusiasm.

Along life’s journey, God brought many special people into Davie’s life. He treasured each relationship deeply and believed every friendship and connection was a blessing placed in his path for a purpose.

Davie is survived by his beloved wife, Courtney, and daughter, Emma; his mother, Stella Kapanga; his five brothers, Chimango, Mayamiko, Harold, Wisdom (Tozga), and Victory; his father-in-law, Perry Schnaak; his mother-in-law, Rose Marvin; and grandmother Donna Marvin. He also leaves behind his brothers-in-law, Hunter (Emily), Chase (Emily), Ethan (Lily), and Owen, as well as his close cousins Brandon (Vernne and Cameron) and Xavier, a multitude of cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family and dear friends who will forever feel his absence. He was preceded in death by his father, Alex, his brother, Ramsey,  and grandmother Eluby Sabwera

The family extends their deepest and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Pisick and the care team at City of Hope Hospital in Zion, Illinois, and to Dr. Sweeney, Nurse Nicky, and Caring Cove Hospice. From the moment Davie met Dr. Pisick and Dr. Sweeney, he felt God’s guidance in placing such compassionate and skilled doctors in his life. Their care, kindness, and dedication brought comfort and peace to Davie and his family during the most challenging days. A special and profound thank you goes to Rose, Alice, Brandon, Beth, Cindy and Dawn whose selfless love, time, and presence during Davie’s final days provided comfort, support, and peace that words cannot fully express. Their devotion and care will forever be remembered in our hearts.

On February 10, 2026, Davie was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior. At the age of 44, Davie leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and selfless devotion. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit and light live on in the memories he created, the family he cherished, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
