Dorcas L. Sunderlin, 87, of South Bend, died Saturday January 9, 2021. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan; the daughter of (the late) Vernon L. and Ruth (Bernath) Miller. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1954 and on February 19, 1955, Dorcas married J. Harold “Bud” Sunderlin, Jr. in Grand Rapids. Bud preceded her in death on June 26, 1983. Dorcas was actively involved in the South Bend Community, committing herself to various organizations and civic affairs. She was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, the Junior League of South Bend and served on the Boards of South Bend Memorial Hospital, Hope Rescue Mission, and the Mental Health Assoc.. Dorcas served as a Registered Nurse and Certified Diabetic Educator at the South Bend Clinic. She was active in her church with Bible Study, Choir, Sunday School and was the former Chairman of The Christian Women’s Club; later serving as a Regional Women’s Coordinator for the Billy Graham Crusade. Dorcas was devoted to her family; fun-loving and known for her boundless energy, she cherished the time spent with family & friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorcas was also preceded in death by her brother, Louis Miller and a sister, Rachel Barager. She is survived by her children; Leah (Carl) Haugneland of Katy TX, J. Harold “Jay” (Julie) Sunderlin III of Lafayette and Sharon Sunderlin of Mishawaka; her grandchildren, Jacob (Rosalie) Sunderlin of Evansville, Benjamin (Kate) Sunderlin of Port Royal VA, Christian Haugneland of Houston TX, Sarah (Sean) McCann of Lafayette, Constance Haugneland of Houston TX, Claire Haugneland of Katy TX and her great-grandchildren, Jane Sunderlin and Garrett McCann. Dorcas is also survived by sisters, Jean Dalman of Grandville MI, Mary Mooney of Leroy MI and Betty Hansen of Lansing MI. Visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 Friday January 15, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Rd. in South Bend, immediately followed by a graveside committal service at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, with Rev.
