Doris J. (Close) Meixel

Doris J. Meixel, 74, of Mishawaka, IN., passed away at 2:17 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at St. Joseph Health System, Mishawaka.

Doris was born February 10, 1948 in South Bend, IN to Clayton and Delores (Podemski) Close.

On September 19, 1970 in South Bend, IN., Doris married Dennis Meixel. Dennis survives along with three granddaughters, Amy Meixel and her husband John, Christine Meixel, and Ashley Meixel; seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Kiara, Guy, Dakota, Lilly, Milan, and Grace; and her brother, Michael Close and his wife Debbie of North Liberty, IN.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Guy Meixel in 2009; and her sister, Brenda Mell.

Doris graduated from Washington High School and Ivy Tech Community College.

Doris was an LPN working for St. Joseph Regional Medical Center South Bend and for Nephrology.

Doris was a very high-spirited, strong-willed individual who always cared for her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Visitation for Doris will be on Sunday, May 22 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home-Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where funeral services will take place on Monday, May 23, at 1:30 p.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the services. Pastor Ralph Gardner will officiate the services. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
