Doris Womack Obituary

Doris Jean Womack, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at the age of 88 surrounded by her family. Born on February 1, 1938, in Mishawaka, IN to Enoch and Linnie (Cottrell) Swartz. Doris's life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family, her passion for her flowers, and her commitment to community service.

Doris's life was rich with the joy of family. She was a cherished mother to Annette (Tom) Beck and Michael (Jana) Zelasko and stepmom to Linda (Kim) Wright. Her role as a mother was only surpassed by the love and wisdom she bestowed upon her grandchildren, Nicholas (Emily) Crouch, Bart (Jessica) Crouch, Jennifer Zelasko, Jessica (Rick) Moore, Joshua (Keli) Wright and Chad (Kimberly) Wright. Doris's legacy continued to flourish through her 13 great-grandchildren, Ellie, Grace, Megan, Quinn, and Elizabeth Crouch, Eli and Ethan Grant, and Logan, Jenson, Evalyn, Alicia, Angelina and Jaden Wright. as well as several great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews of whom brought her immense pride and happiness.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents Enoch and Linnie Swartz, her brother Gerald and sister Glendora, In the Spring of 1961 she met a handsome young marine who would later become the love of her life, husband, and partner in crime Robert Parker. They married on August 26,1961 and stayed happily married until his passing on January 20, 1995. She later re-connected with and married her second husband Landon Womack and remained married until his passing on September 28, 2022. Her favorite niece and devoted caregiver, Vickie Bennett, stood by her side offering lots of laughter, comfort and companionship throughout her final years. The bond they shared was a true reflection of Doris's capacity for nurturing deep and lasting relationships. Vickie promised to continue caring for her beloved companion Connor.

Doris's love for the natural world was evident to all who knew her. She found solace in the company of her birds and plants, and her hands were often seen tending to her beloved yard. Her artistic spirit shone through in her love for beautifully tended flower beds, and her compassion for animals was boundless. Living by example of always giving back to her community, Doris was a proud volunteer at the Niles Civitan Club, where she contributed her time and talents for the betterment of others. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi sorority Zeta Theta chapter (aka, The Pickle Ladies), which raises money for art, literature and music programs locally. Her pioneering spirit was also evident as a founding member of the Barron Lake Association, where she worked tirelessly to ensure the preservation and enjoyment of the local natural beauty for future generations.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Doris will remember her as the embodiment of love, kindness, and wisdom. Her gentle guidance and warm heart left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Doris's memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have felt the warmth of her beautiful smile.
