Dorothy Jean Grant

Dorothy Jean Grant passed away on December 25, 2023, at the age of 95. Born in Dayton, Ohio in 1928, she moved with her parents, James and Cora Huckins to South Bend, IN in 1929 where she lived her entire life.

Dorothy is survived by her son Robert (Mary Jo) Grant and Grandchildren, Lindsay Rudd, Erinne (Chase Galaviz) Grant and R.J. (Haile) Grant, and Great Granddaughter Gracie Rudd. She was preceded in death by a son, William (Bill) Grant, two brothers, Robert Huckins and Richard Huckins, sister, Mildred Rans and Great Grandson, Wyatt Rudd.

Dorothy worked at Ball Band, Huckins Tool & Die, Sears Credit Office and Brandts 5&10 over the years. She loved animals, especially her Quarter Horses, and the farm life where she was most at home on a tractor or a horse. She was a 4-H Horse & Pony leader in the 1960’s and enjoyed showing her horses at both A.Q.H.A. and open horse shows around the area.

Per Dorothy’s wishes, she has been cremated and there will be no services held. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dorothy Jean Grant may be donated to Pet Refuge, 4626 S. Burnett Dr., South Bend, IN 46614.
