E. Eleanor "Ellie" Keb Obituary

E. Eleanor "Ellie" Brademas Keb of South Bend, IN passed away on January 19,2024. Eleanor was born December 22, 1930, to Stephen and Beatrice Brademas, the youngest of four children, and only girl.

Her three brothers, John, Tom, and Jim predeceased her. Eleanor went to Madison Elementary School and graduated from Central High School in 1949. In August 1944, she was given a War Service Award, for voluntary service in price control and rationing, having given 102 hours. Her freshman year of college was at Texas State College for Women, now Texas Women's University, in Denton, Texas. She transferred to Purdue University, graduating in 1954. She later earned a master’s degree from IUSB, specializing in Nursery/Kindergarten.

She returned to South Bend and was a social worker for the Department of Public Welfare for 2 years. Following this she became personnel Director for Compton Publishing Co. in Chicago. She later worked as an Executive secretary for Ziv Television in Chicago. She married Stan Ferris in December 1957 and had 3 children: Cynthia (Ron) Porman of South Bend, David Ferris of Abu Dhabi, and Matthew (Jane) Ferris of Charlotte, NC. She was widowed in 1969, later marrying Richard Keb in South Bend, who died in 1989. She taught kindergarten in South Bend Schools for 25 years and retired in 1990. In 1992 she married Francis Brazeau, who passed away in 2011.

She traveled widely, visiting all 50 states and 14 foreign countries. She was an accomplished pianist and also a tap dancer, jazz and line dancer. She had a winter home in Bonita Springs, FL where she participated in the Bonita Beach Birds, a senior singing group entertaining fellow seniors in area nursing homes. She enjoyed playing Bridge, Canasta, and going to the casino occasionally. She was a long-time member of Hilltop Lutheran Church in South Bend. In 2016 she moved to Primrose retirement community in Mishawaka, IN where she enjoyed friends and activities in the community.

She is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Emily Porman of South Bend, Renvue Porman of South Bend, Alex (Samantha) Ferris of Seattle WA, Peter (Sarah) Ferris of Wheaton IL, Caroline (Stephen) Shlakman of Mint Hill, NC, and Owen (Jessica) Ferris of Concord NC, and 11 great grandchildren; Charlie Triplet, Emory Porman-Geisleman, Levi and Augustine Ferris, Norah, Gavin, Camille, and Knox Ferris, Josie and Simon Shlakman, and John Ferris.

The family would like to thank Traditions Hospice for the loving care they provided.

A visitation will be held Friday February 2, Palmer Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Rd. South Bend, IN from 4pm to 8pm. Service on February 3, Hilltop Lutheran Church of the Ascension, 4114 S Ironwood Dr. South Bend, IN. Service at 12 noon with visitation 11am-12.  Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
