Edward Horvath Obituary

Edward George “Ed” Horvath, 90, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Born on April 18, 1936, in South Bend, Ed was a lifelong resident of the community he proudly called home. He was the son of the late Fabian and Katherine (Kleizer) Horvath.

On March 21, 1959, Ed married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Knebel) Horvath. Together they shared more than 67 years of marriage, building a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished family memories.

Ed dedicated 26 years of service to AM General Corporation, where he worked as an assembler before retiring in 2001.

A quiet man with many passions, Ed found joy in tending his vegetable garden, listening to blues music, caring for his African violets that he grew from seed, and watching the birds that frequented his yard. He was happiest spending time outdoors and with those he loved, and a follower of Notre Dame football and a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Above all else, Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose steady presence, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Horvath; his daughter, Katherine Pawell of South Bend; his son, Steve (Donna) Horvath of Mishawaka; his grandchildren, Matthew Horvath and Kelly (Randy) Cline; and his great-grandchildren, Brendan, Conner, and Owen Cline. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Cathy Knebel of North Liberty, her son, Kevin Crawley, and his daughter, Makenzie Crawley.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Fabian Horvath, Joseph Horvath, William Horvath, Emil Horvath, and Alexander Horvath; and his sister, Katie Fansler.
