Elizabeth Susan Whitson, affectionately known as "Betty Sue" to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the age of 82 in Mishawaka, Indiana. Born on October 15, 1943, in Mishawaka, Betty Sue was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her.
Betty Sue was the cherished daughter of the late Guy and Clementine (Exaver) Hood. She grew up in a loving home alongside her siblings, Beverly Jean O'Brien, John "Jack" Hood and the late Carol McNamara, who fondly remember their upbringing in Hoodsville.
Betty Sue's legacy is carried on by her beloved children: daughter, Ann Marie Blasko (deceased); daughter, Amy Michelle Jones; and sons, Tom Whitson and Tim (Kim) Whitson. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren. Betty Sue taught them bingo that provided years of fun and laughs.
Betty Sue dedicated many years of her life to the students at Penn High School as a teacher's aide. Her passion for education and her nurturing spirit made a lasting impact on countless young lives. She was not only an educator but also a mentor to the students and staff alike.
Betty Sue's influence extended beyond her immediate family and career. She was a cherished friend, a caring neighbor, and avid golfer with a selective memory of her score. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and she will be remembered for her ability to bring people together.
As we say goodbye to Betty Sue, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories we share and the lives she touched.
