Elsa Hollenbach, 100, of South Bend passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, at Story Point nursing home. Elsa was born March 7, 1922 in Brunde, Germany to the late William and Helen Vieregge. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, John, whom she married May 18, 1946 in Rochester, New York. Elsa is survived by a son, Larry Hollenbach of South Bend, daughter, Cherie (Jim) Myers of Lapel, IN., 2 granddaughters, Jennifer (Sean) Connolly of Cicero, IN., Amy (Pastor Anthony Stone) of New Palestine, IN and 7 great grandchildren: Maddy, Callie, Rylee, Jackson, Camden, Owen, and Eli.
Elsa lived most of her life in South Bend, but was also a long-time summer resident on the island of Diamond Lake, Cassopolis, MI. She enjoyed water sports and boating. Elsa also enjoyed playing the piano and organ, was a member of Newcomers, Organ Club, several bridge clubs, and First Presbyterian Church of South Bend.
Friends may visit with the family 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, Friday, November 25, 2022 at Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel. Memorial services will then be held at 1:30 pm. Pastor Anthony Stone of New Palestine United Methodist Church will be officiating the service.
