Emil LeRoy Eckenberger, age 85, passed away at 6:15 a.m. on Monday, November 22, 2021, at his home. He retired as shop foreman from South Bend Toy Company. Emil was born on August 4, 1936, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Clyde and Juanita (Trittipo) Eckenberger. On August 19, 1962, at Coalbush United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, Indiana he married Doiles J. (Dye) Eckenberger. Doiles preceded Emil in death on June 4, 2009.
Emil is survived by a daughter, Norma (Jim) Waterman of South Bend; a son, James (Mindy) Eckenberger of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren, Kayla, Nicole, Jasmine, Mariah, JD, Brittany, Ryan and Josh; twenty great grandchildren; and five siblings, Dennis (Mary) Eckenberger of Clearwater, Florida, Janice Conlon of South Bend, Terry Eckenberger of Ft. Myers, Florida, John Aydelotte of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Tom (Pat) Bolinger of South Bend.
Emil honorably served in the United States Army and was a member of Civil Defense for over sixty years.
A Gathering of Friends and Family and Time of Sharing at Mr. G’s in Osceola will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 12:00 Noon until 5:00pm. Guests are invited to bring a dish to share.
