Erma Odom Obituary

Erma L. (Jennings) Odom affectionally known as “Sister”, 81, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, in Raclin House.

She was born on July 26, 1944, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to Homer and Mamie Jennings, Sr.

Erma worked for many years as a forklift driver, dedicating 38 years of service to her work, at Simplicity Pattern. She was known as a hardworking and resilient woman who took pride in providing for her family.

Erma enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. She loved playing cards, bingo, and visiting the casino. She also enjoyed traveling and especially cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. For many years, she lived in Georgia, where she created lasting memories, and she always treasured going back to visit her daughters and grandchildren.

Family was at the center of Erma’s life. She is survived by her loving children: Martina Harris,  Arthur Kelley Jr. (Paulette), and Sonya Adams. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren: Bradley Lewis Sr. (Soraya’), Arica Kelley, Kevin Thomas Jr (Evita), Larry Lockett Jr. (Unique), Jerel Lockett, Shundalynn Cristler (Derrick Sr.), Shanea Kelley & Arthur Kelley III, 17 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters: Helen Wingo, Beatrice Jennings & Gloria Jennings and 1 brother: Ernest Jennings Sr along with extended family members who will continue to honor her legacy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Mamie Jennings, Sr.; brothers: Homer Jennings Jr. James Jennings, Jerry Jennings and Joseph Jennings Sr. and sisters Dorothy Jennings, Ida Owen and Michelle Jennings.

 Memorial Services will be at 11am on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel 2702 Lincolnway West South Bend, IN 46628, where family and friends may begin to gather at 10am.  Condolences for the family may be made at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.

Erma will be remembered for her strength, her love of family, and the joy she found in spending time with those she loved. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, warmth, and devotion that will not be forgotten.
