Ernest “Pops” Perkins, Jr., 61, residing in South Bend, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Ernie was born November 26, 1960, in Middletown, Ohio to Ernest Perkins, Sr. and Donna (Burbank) Perkins, who both preceded him in death.
On February 6, 1997, he was united in marriage to Dianne (Higbee) Perkins, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Dianne Perkins, Ernie is survived by his daughters, Sherri Jester and Penny (Eric) Stratton; his sons, Joshua, Jeremiah and Xavier Perkins; his sisters, Jo (Vic) Weldy and Barb Lohse; his brother, Rick Perkins (Alice); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ernie is preceded in death by his sons, Robert Jester, Jr., Todd Higbee, and Joshua Winger and his brother-in-law, Clyde Lohse.
He enjoyed motorcycles, especially a Harley Davidson, and was a member of the motorcyclists’ rights organization, ABATE of Indiana, Region 1. Ernie loved dancing, the outdoors, especially the hills of Kentucky and bluegrass music. He cherished spending time with his family. Ernie was good at working with his hands which was evident in his train set with village that he built and sold. Ernie was a collector of many hobbies throughout his life because he loved learning new things.
Memorial services for Ernie and his son, Joshua Winger, will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2022, with visitation from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Homes – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN 46615.
