Estella Blanch MacTurch, 86, of South Bend, IN passed away at 7:16 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2019 at Memorial Hospital. Estella was born to the union of Ed and Gertrude (Sanders) Blanch on September 17, 1932 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She was the seventh and last child born to this union.
Estella was a God-sent woman. She enjoyed sitting on the porch, reading her Bible, traveling and, as always, preparing a good home-cooked meal for her children and their friends. Estella devoted her life to her children, family and friends. She worked at Kennedy Elementary as a substitute teacher and also at United Methodist Church.
Estella accepted Christ at an early age in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She rededicated her life when she moved to South Bend at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Bernard White. She served faithfully as a member of the Nurses Guild and was honored to share her knowledge, faithfulness and attendance to Pastor André McGhee.
She leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted children: Darlene Carey of Michigan City, IN, Terry MacTurch, Raymond MacTurch, Larry MacTurch and Brenda MacTurch, all of South Bend, Dorothy Honeycutt of Houston, TX and Joyce MacTurch of Lithonia, GA; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews; a sister, Ollie Valentine; as well as devoted friends Peggy Jennings and Josephine Peaks. Estella was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, “MC” MacTurch; son Michael McTurch; daughter Linda DeLoach.
Services for Mrs. Estella Blanch MacTurch will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams Street, South Bend, IN 46628. Friends may call on the family for visitation for one hour prior to service at the church. Pastor André McGhee to officiate the service. Burial to follow at Highland Cemetery.
