Evelyn Annette Canfield, 97, of South Bend, IN passed away at 1:02 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2020 at her home. She was born on March 29, 1922 in Eau Gallie, FL to the late Timothy Dudley and Maude (Shea) Newell.
Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Sue Ann Selner and Betty Lou McCrum (Carl) Horvath, both of South Bend, IN; foster child Andy McCrum, and four stepdaughters, Linda (John) Clark, Pam Meadow, Kim (Canfield) LaBrake and Valerie (Canfield) Birk.
She leaves behind a further wealth of family. 6 Grandchildren, Nancy (Selner) Veen (Steve), Russ (Darcy) Selner, Greg (Hoa) Horvath, Annette (Michael) Burkhardt, Deborah (Javier) Mendez, Carla (RJ) Hohl; 28 Great Grandchildren, and 23 Great-Great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marvin L. Rudduck, husband, Clarence “Blackie” Earl Canfield; stepson, Jim Canfield; two sisters, Dorothy Pauley, LaVerne Bartholic, and brother, Russell Newell; as well as long-time companion Warren Eller.
Evelyn worked at Rupe’s Gas Station of Greene Township, Cira’s Restaurant, & spent 18 years in sales for Midwest Distribution in South Bend. Later she spent time working with daughter Betty Lou at La Candy Shoppe in South Bend.
Evelyn was a Girl Scout leader, a member of Order of Eastern Star, member of Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church where she sang & directed choir. She enjoyed camping, fishing, a good hog roast and all family gatherings. Most recently she enjoyed her friends at Fairington of South Bend, her puzzles and her show “The Wheel”.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2020 at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services.
