Welcome to the memorial page for

F. Michael Scinico

November 29, 1940 ~ October 12, 2015 (age 74) 74 Years Old
South Bend, IN – F. Michael Scinico, passed away at his home, surrounded by loved ones, after a brief battle with cancer on Monday, Oct 12, 2015. Michael was born on Nov 29, 1940, in Sharpsburg, PA, the youngest of seven children, to Michael A. and Assunta (Panza) Scinico.

After graduating from Sharpsburg HS in 1958, Michael attended Robert Morris College and started his career in the hospitality industry that spanned 50 years. He served primarily as a comptroller/ manager but also enjoyed working in the food and beverage aspects as well. Over the years, he worked at the William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, the Congress Hotel in Chicago, IL, the Albert Pick in South Bend and the Hilton, Fort Wayne, IN. He worked in other industries over the years, but was the most passionate about a smooth running hotel.

Michael met a sweet bank clerk from Penn Hills named Karen J. Festa and they were married at St. Susanna Catholic Church, Penn Hills, PA on August 10, 1963.  They had four loving children and kept in close contact with their extended family, creating cherished, unforgettable memories with the family back “home” in Pittsburgh. He placed great emphasis on his family’s Italian heritage, values and traditions so that they may be passed on and not forgotten.

Michael loved cooking, art, music and keeping a nice home. Family mealtime was a meeting time and a social event filled with conversation and laughter. Dad’s cooking creations and Sunday dinner were not to be missed. As a competent do-it-yourselfer, he “enjoyed” home remodeling and considerable effort was spent improving every home. Tall ladders, bruised thumbs, splinters and even an errant hammer blow to the head didn’t stop him. In spite of health issues, some of his last wishes involved improving the home for Mom.

In addition to his loving wife of 52 years, he is survived by his children, David Michael (Diane) Scinico of Niles, MI, Leah Marie (Robert) Bolton of McHenry, IL Richard Neal (Janee’) Scinico of Oregon, WI and Amanda Rose Scinico of Markleville, IN; grandchildren, Adam (Cassidy), Rebecca, Nicholas, Shelby, Rylee, Evan, Samuel, Reece, Aaron and Tracie (Mick); and great grandchildren, Allison, Devin, Kayley, Madeline and Charlotte. He is survived by his sister, Mary Louise Varvaro and sister-in-law, Anna Marie Scinico, both of them residing in Pittsburgh, PA. Also, the beloved Uncle Mike is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Frances Leavens and her husband, Walter; Rose Coen and her husband, John; Eugenia Thomas and her husband, Albert as well as brothers Carmen Scinico, Robert Scinico and his wife, Donna; brother-in-law Edward Varvaro and one grandson, Don Temple.

Visitation will be held on Oct 16-17, 2015, specifically 5-9 PM on Saturday and 12-7 PM on Sunday, at Worrell Funeral Home on 820 Main St., Sharpsburg, PA.
