Flora Louise Richardson (Duff) was born on July 4, 1945, in Indianapolis, IN, to Jessie Duff and Addie Mae Duff (Swinney). She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Duff; mother, Addie Mae Duff (Swinney); brother, John H. Carpenter; and sisters, Aline Hoskins and Minnie Mae Hughes.
Flora accepted Christ early in her life and was baptized at Bethesda Baptist Church in Indianapolis, IN. In her early 20s, her walk with the Lord led her from Indianapolis to South Bend to the union of Maurice Richardson and Flora Duff. She would become a member of the gospel singing group The Starlites of the local Quartet Union 30-2 and a member of Greater Friendship Baptist Church for many years. She also enjoyed bowling in the women’s league at the Chippewa Bowling Alley. She was a pitcher and played outfield for Koszegi Industries' softball team while employed there. Flora was employed at Bendix Corporation for close to 20 years on the assembly line. She spent part of her life teaching and as a Foster Grandparent through REAL Services in South Bend community schools. She loved to travel and cruise. She was a beloved member of Amvets Post 66 of South Bend, IN. She was very charismatic and enjoyed socializing with all her friends and associates. Flora dedicated her life to her community, friends, and family.
Flora had a bold sense of humor that kept everyone laughing. One could count on her to lean in and whisper something that cannot be repeated out loud. Though her personality was flamboyant, she was a good soul to lean on. She showed her love through her wonderful cooking, company, and brilliant nicknames for her loved ones. She went by many names herself: Flora Louise, Flo, Flo-tweet, Little Sister, and of course, Granny. She had a lasting impact on us with her charm, storytelling, and now memories that will stay in our hearts for days to come.
She went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the blessed age of 80 years old, surrounded by loved ones. Flora is survived by two sons, Maurice L. Richardson Jr. and Dorian Bingham; four daughters, Monica L. Richardson (Belanger) (Harry), Marline L. Richardson, Shonda Dozier, and Laura Thomas; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her brother William Duff and sister Ella Means (Duff); Godson Daniel (Redbone); Goddaughter Molly Diveley, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Two special friends, Peggy Wright and Joann Harris.
Funeral services for Flora will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, Dec 6, 2025, at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 1232 Bronson St., South Bend, IN 46615. Friends may visit with the family half an hour prior to the services at the church.
