Frances Ruhe

Frances Ruhe, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully of natural causes on November 9, 2023, in Mishawaka, Indiana. Fran was born on July 15, 1927, in Gary, Indiana, and lived a life full of love, faith, and service to others.

Fran was a remarkable woman of intelligence and thoughtfulness, whose life was deeply rooted in her faith. She was known for her sharp wit, generous spirit, and the unwavering love she had for her family and travel.

She was an accomplished student and dedicated her life to education. After receiving her Master's in Education, Fran embarked on a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher. Her passion for knowledge was infectious, and she spent many years inspiring young minds and shaping the future of countless students.

Fran is survived by her loving husband, John "Jack" Ruhe, to whom she was married to for 66 years. Her love story with Jack was one of true partnership and devotion, and their relationship served as an inspiration to their children and grandchildren. Fran was a dedicated mother to Michael (Debbie) Ruhe, Christopher Ruhe and his preceded wife Yolanda, Laura (Michael) Smydra, Lisa (Gioacchino) Minelli, and Judy (Gary) Bronner. She was a doting and loving grandmother to ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Nettie Fino. Fran was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Castagna.

Fran Ruhe was a woman of grace and dignity, who lived her life with purpose and love. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, former students, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all those she touched.

Funeral services for Frances will be Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at St. Pius X Catholic Church and 10:30 am with visitation one hour prior to her service. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Margaret's House, 117 N. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, IN 46601
