Frankie L. Detert, 53, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, in Mishawaka, Indiana. He was born on October 9, 1972, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a warm appreciation for the simple joys that made each day meaningful.
Frankie was the beloved husband of Robbie L. Detert of Mishawaka, whom he married on October 9, 2004. Their marriage was built on love, loyalty, and companionship, and together they shared many years of life's blessings and challenges. He was a devoted stepfather to Angel Andrene of Osceola, Indiana, and Nolan Church of Washington. He took great pride in his family. Frankie was also a loving grandfather to Khia, Camdon, and Damion, and a proud great-grandfather to Aurora and Aviana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary L. and Nancy K. (Buck) Detert.
Frankie is survived by his sisters, Marsha (Scott) Matthews of South Bend, Indiana; Rhonda (Will) Mellen of Mishawaka, Indiana; and Kimberly Detert of South Bend, Indiana; his brother, Jeff (Danielle) Sellers of Indianapolis, Indiana. His lifelong friends, Pat (Paula) Kulberg of Osceola and Lee Newhouse of South Bend. His beloved nieces and nephews, Aaron, Amy, Landon, Kyle, Kaden, Sara, and Alycia. Along with many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Frankie worked as a union painter and drywaller, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication to doing a job well. He was respected by those who knew him for his steady presence, his willingness to lend a hand, and the pride he took in his trade.
Outside of work, Frankie found joy in the things he loved most. He especially loved his five dogs, Luka, Cyra, Sheba, Foxy, and Lady, who were constant companions and a source of comfort and happiness. He enjoyed fishing, watching football, playing bingo, and treasured the time he spent with family and friends.
