Gene Austin Patrick

Gene Austin Patrick, 80 years old, passed away at 10:20 p.m. on  Monday, May 3, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Gene was born on October 26, 1940 in Salyersville, KY to the late Gordon and Nelle (Prater) Patrick.  He has been a lifelong resident of North Liberty and Walkerton.  On February 3, 1962 in North Liberty, Gene and Norma J. Sheneman were united in marriage. 

Along with Norma, his loving wife of 59 years, survivors include their daughter, Tammy L. Holderbaum of North Liberty; two grandchildren, Brandon (Tracie) Patrick of Walkerton and Jami (Dave Brown) Holderbaum of Three Rivers, MI; and two great grandsons, Austin Patrick and Ryder Gene Patrick.  Gene is also survived by his two sisters, JoAnn (Robert) Boyd of Brookville, OH, and Carole (Harry) Buettner of LaPorte, and one brother, Phillip (Judy) Patrick of Mishawaka. 

Gene was the owner and operator of Gene’s Towing and Repair in North Liberty for 53 years.  He also owned and operated GAP Oil Company from 1983-2003.  Gene was a 55-year volunteer for the fire department with Liberty Township and Walkerton. He was a member of the North Liberty Masonic Lodge #266, F & AM, and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend.  Gene was a former president for the Jaycee’s and a member of the Lion’s Club. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Palmer Funeral Home, 202 N. Main Street, North Liberty.  We understand this location is not large enough for the crowd, but Gene wanted to have his services in his hometown.  Graveside services and burial will follow the service at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty.  Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., as well as, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
