Gerald P. Thompson

Gerald P. Thompson, age 73, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026. He was born on July 21, 1952, in Fort Wayne, IN, and lived a life marked by hard work that left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Gerald was a high school graduate and spent much of his working life employed in a carpenter’s union. He took pride in his work and was known as a Chicago Cubs fan and a John Deere lover and a handy man who could be counted on to help when something needed to be built, fixed, or improved. Whether spending time with family, sharing conversation, or lending a helping hand, he brought steadiness and kindness to the lives around him.

Gerald is survived by his daughters, Kimberlee (Keith) Thurston of Niles, MI, and Rhonda (Michael) Wirt of South Bend, IN; his sons, Brent Thompson, Eric Thompson, and Jason Thompson; his sisters, Barbara Williams and Nancy Grone; his sisters-in-law, Katie Thompson, Rosemary Thompson, and Paula Thompson; his brother, Steve Thompson; and a special cousin, Peggy Lee. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who he cherished, along with many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda Thompson; his parents, Paul and Albertine (Offner) Thompson; his sisters, Helen Thompson and Sandy McClure; and his brothers, Jim Thompson, Daniel Thompson, and Michael Thompson.

Gerald will be remembered with love and gratitude for the life he lived and the example he set. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and he will be missed dearly by all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.

Cremation will take place, and his ashes will be interred at Oak Grove Cemetery in Mill Creek, La Porte County, IN. Palmer Funeral Home—River Park Chapel is assisting the family.
