Geraldine (Bogard) Nelson

Geraldine Nelson, 87, of Mishawaka, IN., passed away surrounded by her family at 2:08 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023.

Geraldine was born on October 27, 1935 in Dixie, Arkansas to Marion and Emma (Coots) Bogard.

On June 30, 1950 in Augusta, Arkansas, Geraldine married James L. Nelson. James preceded her in death on September 20, 2011. Geraldine was also preceded in death by her parents, five grandchildren; William Cooper, Jessica Nicholas, Michael Faunce, Billie Jo Nelson and Katherine Stewart, her brother, Ervil Bogard; two sisters, Mildred Uland and Bernice Gilbert and son-in-law Larry Stewart.

Geraldine is survived by her children; Billy Gerald Nelson (Lori) of Mishawaka, Ethel Stewart of Elkhart, IN., Perry Nelson of Bristol, IN., Stevie Nelson of Mishawaka, Marcia Faunce of Mishawaka, James L. Nelson (Marlene) of Mishawaka, Kathy Nicholas of South Bend, Debbie Nelson of Mishawaka, Ricky Nelson (Lorelie) of Three Rivers, MI and Jeffery Nelson of Mishawaka,  twenty –nine grandchildren, fifty-four great grandchildren, twenty-five great great grandchildren with three on the way and two great great great grandchildren.

Geraldine will be remembered for hosting family gatherings at the holidays with her famous chicken & dumplings and mashed potatoes that you either loved or hated. She loved visiting with her kids and grandkids; you could sit with her for hours talking about anything. And that no matter what there was always a cowboy show on the TV. She cherished her time with her companion Missy Girl, that wouldn’t let anyone near her and passed away a few months ago.

Services for Geraldine will be on Wednesday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home- Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka where visitation will be held three hours prior to the services.

Pastor Timothy Sheets will officiate the services with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka.
