Harvey J. Holmes, Jr.

Harvey J. Holmes Jr., 77, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 13, 1945 in Mishawaka to the late Harvey J. Holmes Sr. and Jeanette E. (Cripe) Holmes. In October 1989, he was united in marriage to Linda L. Farr who preceded him in death on January 20, 1997.

Harvey joined and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a lifelong resident of the area. He retired from the maintenance department at Notre Dame University with 23 years of service. He was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and was well known for his time there and his love of feeding the squirrels that would come around. He attended AA and was proud of his 36 years of sobriety. He was a huge Notre Dame fan and loved attending the football games, which he was a season ticket holder.

He is survived by his brother William R. (Karen) Holmes, II of Osceola, IN., along with two nephews, Mark and Danny Holmes and one niece, Vicki Holmes.  He is also survived by his good friend, Paul Zulas, and many, many other friends.

Along with his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his brother Harry Holmes, two half-brothers Richard Senour and Robert Senour, one half-sister, Honorene Hojara, and a niece Kathy Holmes.

Services for Harvey will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 225 Haney Ave, South Bend, IN 46613. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Graveside services with military honors will take place immediately following at Fairview Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
