Helen Frances Manley, 84, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 22, 2022 at Wellbrooke of South Bend, Indiana, surrounded by her family. She was born on September 26, 1937 in the Bronx, New York, to Martin and Mary (Higgins) Logan, both of whom preceded her in death.
On September 6, 1957 in Indianapolis, IN, Helen married James Manley, who preceded her in death on May 29, 1996, after 38 years of marriage.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Katie (Jim) Lohr of Naperville, IL, and Mary (Mike) Bramlett of South Bend, IN; son, Tom (Mimi) Manley of Avon, IN; 15 grandchildren, Bridget Putney, Morgan Bramlett, Leah Bramlett, Lauren Bramlett, James Bramlett, Maggie Bramlett, Austin Lohr, Elliot Lohr, Justin Manley, Lindsay Stepp, Meredith Salinas, Paige Manley, Corbin Manley, Sidney Manley, and Rory Manley; and nine great-grandchildren, along with a special nephew, Chris Logan of Indianapolis, IN; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Eileen Manley; son, Bob Manley; granddaughter, Mariah Lohr; and brother, Bill Logan.
Helen was employed as teacher’s aide for South Bend Community School Corporation schools. Over the years she worked at Maple Lane, Edison, and Harrison Elementary Schools and was a Chapter 1 teacher aide. She attended Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend. Helen enjoyed playing euchre and was member of the bridge club. She volunteered at Leighton Center and Milton Home. She was a member of Christ Child Society. Helen was very active in AA and has celebrated over 40 years of sobriety!
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 State Road 933, South Bend, IN. Graveside service and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, June 29th at Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN, where rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
