Helen Snyder Obituary

April 17, 2026, Helen was called home by her heavenly Father. She was born June 27, 1935, and was a lifelong resident of Mishawka. She was a member of Saint Monica's Parrish where she graduated primary school and graduated from Mishawaka High School 1953. She remained an active member of both alumni associations.

Helen loved sports. She played girls softball and coached girls volleyball at St Monica's as they won championships 1953-1956.

She served Christ as a Sister with the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ (Sister Mary Monica) after which she continued to serve God along side many friends at the Mother House in Donaldson Indiana by being a member in the Associate Community. She never failed to serve anyone when help was needed and never let you leave the room without a smile.

Helen continued her passion for sports by playing softball, tennis, bowling, and water skiing in her spare time.

She first worked at Corvilla group home, then Gerber Manufacturing as a supervisor/trainer and then at Uniroyal. After retiring from Uniroyal, she worked for St Joseph Hospital of Mishawaka at the Lindenvale treatment facility and as a courier. Until her decline in health, she could be found at Notre Dame working as an usher where she combined her love for service to others with her love for sports and her passion for Notre Dame (GO IRISH!).

She is proceeded in death by her father Otis Snyder, mother Velma Snyder (Cottrell), brothers Richard Snyder, and Larry Snyder, Sister-in-law Diana Snyder (Strauser), Half sister Rosamond Kanouse (Snyder), Brother-in-law Cecil Kanouse, nephew Daniel Snyder, and long time friend Patricia Wagner. She is survived by her sister-in-law Diana Snyder (Gillam) and nephew Christopher Snyder.

Her family would like to thank Brookdale Granger Assisted Living, East Lake Nursing and Rehab, and Traditions Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
