Herbert Lewis Hull

February 26, 1916 ~ June 26, 2014 (age 98) 98 Years Old
Herbert L. Hull
February 26, 1916 – June 26, 2014

Surrounded by his loved ones, Herbert L. Hull completed his 98 year earthly adventure on June 26, 2014.  Born in rural Kimmel, IN to Forrest and Iva on February 26, 1916, Herb spent most of his life in River Park graduating from Central HS.  Marrying the girl across the street, he and Margaret (Flowers) were parents to Elizabeth, James, and Thomas. Their marriage spanned 65 years.

Herb's varied work career started at South Bend Lathe where, for 35 years, he worked in supervision of numerous departments from heat treating to shipping.  Not succumbing to leisure, he transported RV's all around the Midwest for a year.  The next 25 years found Herb at Notre Dame in his workshop flourishing his inventive skills designing equipment for the Psychology Department.

Herb's loving legacy will be cherished by his family:  Liz & Noel Atkinson, Jim & Susie Hull, Tom & Chris Hull; seven grandchildren: Rhonda (Les) Sanders, Darin (Erin) Atkinson, Ethan (Lynn) Hull, Caleb (Rae) Hull, Gabe, Michaela, Parker Hull; and seven great grandchildren:  Brianna, Megan, Olivia, Chloe, Ulysses, Ledger, Brody.  His last decade was enriched by the love and companionship of Carol Kuzbay, his "Sweetie".

An accomplished pilot, Herb flew many pre-WWII planes and was known to collect 50 cents an hour from passengers.  Herb's unique "Chippy Chipmunk" adventure tales delighted and fascinated children throughout the years.   His sense of adventure, his humor, his vast tales of things past, and his sense of inquisitiveness are all a part of what made Herb so special.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, July 3, 2014 at St Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.  A Herbie Reception/Euchre gathering will follow at Honkers Restaurant from 2:00 - 4:30 pm.  All are welcome.  Please bring your favorite memories.
