Iradella Holland Obituary

Mrs. Iradella Holland, 54, departed this life peacefully at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on the morning of Wednesday, July 17, 2019. Iradella was born February 21, 1965 in Trenton, Tennessee to the union of James and Mary Luten-Newhouse.

At an early age, the family relocated to South Bend, Indiana where she remained a resident until her passing. Iradella attended at Riley High School and she furthered her education at Ivy Tech and IUSB where she received her Master’s degree in nursing.  On July 10, 1999, Melvin and Iradella united in holy matrimony in Independent, Louisiana. She was a faithful member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she moved her membership to New Life Fellowship Ministry where the Pastor Charles and Betty Harris officiated. Iradella return to her family church under the leadership of Pastor Darren Washington. She was truly known for her patience, directing the many choirs under the guidance of Ms. Corrine Miller. She also taught the children Sunday School.

Iradella is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Melvin Holland; children: Jalen, Isaiah and Josiah Holland, all of South Bend; two stepchildren, Thomas J. Holland of Atlanta, GA and Shalanda Holland of South Bend; one grandson, Thomas Holland, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; her father, James Newhouse of South Bend;  aunt, Marian Newhouse of San Francisco, CA; two sisters, Rebecca Newhouse and Janice (James Jr.) Plump of South Bend; brother-in-law Thomas (Betty) Holland, Larry (Janice) Holland, Lionel (Paula) Holland, William Holland, Charles Holland, and sister-in-law Deborah (Jasper) Harvey, all of Louisiana; sisters-in-law Leartine Morgan and Elois Holland. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and one great- great niece and a host of extended family members;  a very special niece, Aracada Cameron, and a true friend who was like a blood sister, Mrs. Charmaine (Michael) Hall, who both loved her very dearly.

Iradella is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Luten-Newhouse; mother-in-law Gladys Holland; one brother, Ronald Luten; grandparents: Cary and Rebecca (Burns) Luten, James Sr. and Elsie Newhouse; uncles: Billy L. Newhouse, Clyde Luten Sr., Robert Luten Sr, Cary Luten Sr., Carl Luten, Haywood Luten, George Luten, Frederick Luten and Lawrence Luten.

On the early morning of July 17, 2019, God called His servant by name and she had to answer. It is our belief that because Iradella kept the faith and believed in God the Father and Jesus Christ the Savior, she was received into his Kingdom, and without delay these words were simply spoken to her on her  arrival: “Servant, well done”
