James R Ferguson

James (Jim) R. Ferguson, 72, a lifelong resident of South Bend passed away on Monday December 18, 2023 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

Jim was born in South Bend on August 24, 1951, to the late Robert and Muriel (Douglas) Ferguson.  After graduation at Lasalle High School in 1969, Jim enlisted to serve his country in the United States Navy.  After the Navy, he worked several jobs but found a home in IT management at Associates for over 20 years.  Jim met Nancy Strzelecki on a blind date back in 1972.  They fell in love and were married the next year on December 8, 1973.  Jim and Nancy just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  Jim was a consummate family man spending his weekends coaching his sons’ Little League baseball teams and shuttling them to cross country, wrestling, and football practices, games, and meets.  He loved Notre Dame including the football and women’s basketball team, the latter as a season ticket holder.  Jim had a love for bad dad jokes and was always looking to make people smile.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ferguson, his sons; Michael (Sarah) Ferguson of Indianapolis and Scott Ferguson of Michigan City, his grandchildren; Colin and Maura, and his brothers; Robert (Joanne) Ferguson, John (Annette) Ferguson, and Richard Ferguson.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter; Kelly Ferguson, and his siblings; Janice Jackson and Dennis Ferguson.

Visitation for James will be held from 11am until 1pm on Saturday December 23, 2023 at the Palmer Funeral Homes-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend.  A private graveside service will follow.
