James Healy Obituary

James T. Healy, 83, passed away on Thursday morning, May 21, 2020 in South Bend, IN. He was born on December 26, 1936 in Valhalla, NY, to Hubert and Thelma (Dalton) Healy, both of whom preceded him in death.

On January 22, 1960 in Washington, DC, James married the former Betty M. Edwards, who preceded him in death on May 3, 2015.

James is survived by his daughter, Susan M. (Thomas) Soisson of South Bend; James J. Healy of Croton-on-Hudson, NY; five grandchildren, Alexandra (Gary) Parriman, Adam Soisson, Claire Soisson, Annelyse Soisson, and Kayci Healy; siblings, Larry (Kris) Healy of Pocatello, ID; Mary Pesavento (Ricky Spanro) of Croton-on-Hudson, NY; and Joe (Ellie) Healy of Sharon, CT. In addition to his parents and wife, James was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Healy and Edward Healy.

James was employed as a car knocker with the Metro North Railroad in New York. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was also a volunteer firefighter with Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, and served as a crossing guard in his later years. James’ Catholic faith was an important part of his life, especially a devotion to Mary. He treasured his time with animals, his family, and his motorcycle.

Mass of Christian Burial for James will be celebrated privately at Sacred Heart Parish Center on St. Joseph’s Lake on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. James will be laid to rest in St. Augustine Cemetery in Ossining, NY. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
