James L. Hullinger, residing in South Bend, passed away Saturday morning, August 13, 2022 in his home at the age of 75 years old.
He was born May 16, 1947 in South Bend, a son of the late Edward & Margaret (Jewett) Hullinger, and was a 1965 graduate of Washington High School.
On October 6, 1974 at Battell Park, Mishawka, IN, Jim was united in marriage to Jennifer H. Walton, formerly of Orchard Lake MI. He is survived by his wife Jenny of 47 years, along with his daughter and son-in-law, Melody & Ryan Reese of Walkerton, IN; and his son and daughter-in-law, David and Rachel Hullinger of Washington Township, MI. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Eli and Emma Hullinger, and Addison, Calleigh and Lincoln Reese, along with two sisters, Kristine Hullinger of South Bend, and Karen Krause of Las Vegas, NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Sarah, and his sister Kathy.
The turning point in Jim’s life was at age 24 when he understood that God offered the gift of salvation. Once he received forgiveness, he came into a personal relationship with Christ, and his desires and direction changed. He wanted everyone to know that joy. He now had a new passion and began sharing the Good News wherever he could. God led him into ministry, first teaching 7th & 8th graders, then doing special programs in churches. Soon, God sent Jenny into his life and The King’s Adventureland was born. This was a 5-night family crusade and together they traveled the country for 10 years. Jim was an idea man, passionate about his pursuits and determined to fulfill them. He was a teen leader, a Sunday school teacher, and had a goal of influencing at least one person a year to go into ministry. He loved to help people. His smile greeted all, and he was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in South Bend.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
A Memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Trinity Church, 61770 Miami Road, South Bend, with Rev. Craig Clapper officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Church.
His body’s resting place will be at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend.
