James C. Koopman

James Calvin Koopman, 75, of Lakeville passed away on Tuesday July 14, 2026, at his home.

James was born on November 23, 1950, in Momence, IL to the late Clarence and Edith (Kort) Koopman.

After High School he proudly served in the United States Army.  He then went on to work as a diesel mechanic.

James married Kathleen Wright on July 3, 2003, in Reno, NV and the two shared 17 years of marriage before her passing.

James is survived by his children; Lisa (Josh) Rice and Joe Koopman, stepdaughter Brandi Scott, as well as his grandchildren; Olivia Rice, Mathew Rice, Grace (Joel) Gee, Luke Rice, Kelsey Koopman, Emily Koopman, and Jolene Koopman.  His sisters also survive; Joy (Rick) Dutcher and Karen Stammis.

Jim loved fishing, Nascar, and being around family and friends.  He was passionate about spending time with and helping other veterans and friends at the American Legion post 363 in Lakeville.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his son, James “Jimmy) Koopman.

A celebration of life for James is being planned for a later date.
