James Norman Obituary

James W. Norman, 59, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 7, 2019 after battling an extended illness. James was born on August 15, 1959 in Leland, MS to Lucille (Webb) Morris and was raised in Michiana by his parents, Willie Sr. and Scottie (Veasley) Norman.

James was united in holy matrimony on February 5, 1994 in South Bend to Tonya A. Dishman, who survives. He was employed for many years as an over-the-road truck driver for Clearwater Logistics in Mishawaka. James had a passion for basketball and was a star player for Elkhart Central High School in 1978 and 1979. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife of 25 years, James is survived by his eight children: James Taylor of Benton Harbor, Robert Beal of Michigan, Nicole DeFronzo of Mishawaka, Eric Zelasko of South Bend, Crystal Norman of South Bend, Keshia Norman of South Bend, Kayla Norman of South Bend and Ciara Lukens of Mishawaka; four brothers: Jimmy (Sandra) Norman of Elkhart, Lewis (Jessie) Norman of Chicago, IL, Willie Norman, Jr. of Michigan City and Tommy Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Brenda (Lee) Montgomery of Granger; twelve beloved grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Sr. and Scottie Norman; sister, Vera Lewis, and four brothers: Larry Norman, Sr., Cecil Norman, Ecil Norman and Oggie Lee Norman.

Per the family’s wishes, no public services will be held. The family may gather privately at a later date to celebrate James’s life. Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online expressions of sympathy may be left at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
