James D. “Jim” Skalla II, 73, of Niles, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Hanson Hospice House.

Born on March 12, 1953, in Niles, Michigan, Jim was the son of the late James Skalla and Mary Jane (Burge) Skalla. He was a graduate of Berrien Springs High School and proudly served his country as a United States Army Veteran, a foundation that led him into a lifetime of hard work and dedication. He spent many years as a factory worker for Tyler Refrigeration, where he devoted 24 years of service, followed by 7 years with Pilkington Corporation before retiring.

Jim married the love of his life, Pamela (Peck) Skalla, who survives him. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and the simple joys of spending time together. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Skalla of Niles; his children, Alyssa (Joseph) Austin of Mishawaka, Amy Skalla of Niles, James “Jimmy” (Michelle) Skalla of Dowagiac, and Jason Skalla of Niles; his grandchildren, Joey and Shelby Skalla; and his sister, Judy Snyder of New Buffalo.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking out, being outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He will be remembered for his love of family, his hardworking nature, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

In accordance with Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private Celebration of Life will be held by the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer Funeral Home – Hoven Chapel, Buchanan. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice. Jim will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
