James "Jimmy" Ford Obituary

James Edward “Jimmy” Ford passed away peacefully at Memorial Hospital of South Bend on April 27, 2026. He was surrounded by his cherished children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was born to Robert C. and Anise Leona (Shaw) Ford on May 21, 1951. He grew to be a funny, powerful, quiet man. Jimmy had a presence about him that one took notice of when he walked into a room. It wasn’t domineering, but an underlying strength you couldn’t help but feel. He was devoted to his family, starting with his siblings, and carrying that on to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he doted on, nieces and nephews, and all of whom his legacy is survived by. Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patti, and his previous wife Brenda Hartman, as well as his loving parents, many brothers and sisters.

Jimmy was a kind man, stern when he needed to be, but always an open hand and heart when it was required. He was a man moved by power but tempered with Grace. He didn’t need to show it; it was simply there. He would gladly use that power to benefit others. If you knew Jimmy, he was a man that never showed up empty-handed. He never turned away someone in need of a talk, whether it be to offer advice, or just to listen. He was legendary for spoiling the children of his family, ensuring a steady supply of treats, and even more smiles. Beyond the sweets and gifts, he was the greatest confidant. He was a caring man who listened without judgements and loved without limits. He worked very hard for everything he had in his life and wanted to share the fruits of that with his loved ones. His legacy of thoughtfulness will be carried on by those he has left behind.

Jimmy had a wonderful ability to tell stories. He was a man of vivid speech and incredible timing. He would tell animated tales, which he especially loved to share over a meal with his family. Food was love to him, and it was exceptionally treasured when made by his loved ones. As someone who lived an adventurous life, there were a great deal of stories to tell! Jimmy had fantastic laugh that he loved to share, but it wasn’t one of show. He was simple man, capable of great thought, but direct in those thoughts. A good laugh, a hearty meal, and time with his loved ones were his greatest joys.
