Janet Kay (Barfell) Hunt

Janet Kay Hunt, 78, of South Bend, IN., passed away at 4:30 p.m. Monday May 11, 2026 in her residence after a lengthy illness. Janet was born on may 13, 1947 in Indianapolis, IN., to the late Lloyd Miles and Nona Marie (Kamp) Barfell.

Janet graduated from John Adams High School in 1965. She married John D. Mathis September 18, 1965. She married James Harold Hunt on July 24, 1976. Jim preceded her in death on August 26, 2006.

Janet is survived by her son, Mike (Sarah) Mathis of Mishawaka IN, cousins; Dave Scheulke of Union MI, Jim and Karen Schuelke of Niles MI, Julie and John Slayter of Elkhart IN, and nephew John P. Pierson of Orlando FL.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, IN. Chaplain Arlin Cochran will officiate the services.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Pet Refuge.
