Janice Marie Horner

Janice Marie Horner was born on May 25, 1943 in Galien, Michigan.  She passed from this life into the presence of her Lord, Jesus Christ, on February 24, 2020. 

 Janice was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-three years, Harle Eldon Horner, who died as the result of an automobile accident, March 12, 1999.  They had one child, a son: Scott Eldon, who was born February 21, 1970.   

In addition to her husband, Janice was also preceded in death by her parents, Dalvin and Helen Hanes.  She is survived by her son, Scott Eldon, a sister, Nancy and husband, Michael Funderburg, Sr., Johnson City, Tennessee and a brother, David and wife, Bonnie Hanes, Galien, Michigan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Janice worked at various jobs during her lifetime, but her greatest love was in helping work with children in Sunday school and children’s church.  She was a member of Niles Grace Brethren Church.  She loved music and entertained herself, and others on occasion, by playing the organ and accordion by ear.  She received great pleasure in caring for animals and birds and was generous in giving gifts to children.  Because of a brain injury as a child she experienced learning limitations, but because of a tenacious determination she was able to overcome many challenges which seemed impossible.

The family appreciates the remarkable compassionate care Janice received at the West Bend Nursing Home in South Bend and through the services of Heartland Hospice.  Janice’s pastor, Ron Welsh and his wife, Donna, as well as Pastor Mike and Judy Ostrander, and longtime friend, Janet Hall, were among those who were especially helpful in their visits while Janice was in the nursing home.

A memorial service for  Janice Horner will be held at the New Troy Grace Brethren Church, 13310 California Road, New Troy, MI, on Friday, July, 31, 2020 at 7:00 P.M.  Friends and relatives may come for a visitation in the hour prior to the service.  The service will be conducted by Pastor Bob Mensinger, pastor of the New Troy Grace Brethren Church.
