Jeffrey S. Sallak, 62, of Niles, Michigan, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on June 15, 1963, in Michigan, Jeff was the son of the late Bohumir “Peter” Sallak and Kathleen (Lierley) Sallak. He graduated from Niles High School in 1981 and remained a lifelong resident of the area, living on land his family has held for generations and staying connected to his roots.
Jeff spent many years working as a self-employed contractor. A detail-oriented craftsman, he took great pride in the quality of his work and was known for his skill, reliability, and willingness to help anyone in need. He was easy to talk to and enjoyed conversation and storytelling, forming lasting relationships.
Jeff enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, such as spending time outdoors, watching sunsets at the beach, and taking in the peace and beauty of his surroundings.
Baseball remained a constant throughout his life; he played, coached his son, and spent countless hours watching it, always finding meaning and enjoyment in every aspect. He also had a passion for cars; a hobby shared with his father and could often be found working on one or going for a drive. These pastimes brought him immense comfort and joy.
Above all, Jeff loved his family deeply. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him, and he treasured every moment shared with them until the very end. He also held a special bond and countless memories with his siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jeff is survived by his daughter, Sonya Sallak; his son, Jesse (Jamie) Sallak; and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Brenda (Robert) Holmes and Melody (Dan Hayes) Sallak; his brother, Rex (Kelly) Sallak; and his nephew, Peter Shrider, who was raised as his brother. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kay Ryor Sallak.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – Hoven Chapel, 414 E. Front St., Buchanan, where the family welcomes stories and memories of Jeff. Following the visitation, family and friends are invited to gather at Weko Beach, 5239 Lake St., Bridgman, beginning around 8:15 p.m. and continuing through sunset.
