Joan Marie (Miller) Johnson

Joan M. Johnson, of South Bend, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021 at the age of 88.  She was born on November 4, 1933 in South Bend to the late Fred and Magdelina Mary (Becklandt) Miller.  On October 29, 1955 in LaPorte, IN she was united in marriage to Gerold Johnson who preceded her in death on November 22, 2010.

Joan was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved caring for her family. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, and canning. She loved taking trips to Lake Vermilion in Minnesota over the years. Joan worked for Bendix Corporation in the aviation brakes department retiring after 40 years of service.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Jill Andrzejewski of Niles, MI, Kelly (Raymond) Smith of South Bend, sons, Gary Johnson of South Bend and Christopher Johnson of Rockville, IN, her 8 grandchildren, Derrick and Jocelyn Andrzejewski, Grant and Julia Johnson, Kyle and Klay Smith, Nick and Amber Johnson, along with 5 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind sisters, Ann Lineberry of Rolling Prairie, IN, Edna Kuk of LaPorte, IN, Donna (Larry) Lasch of South Bend and sister-in-law, Maude Miller of New Carlisle, IN. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Johnson, and son Raymond Johnson, her sister, Amy Coddens, and brother, Fred Miller.

Services for Joan will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Rd, South Bend, In 46635.  Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, December 1, beginning at 9:30 until the time of service. Burial with graveside service will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in South Bend.
