Joann Marie Holmes

Joann M. Holmes, 71, of Mishawaka, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. She was born on July 12, 1954, to the late Harry and Martha (Velleman) Holmes.

Joann was a graduate of Mishawaka High School and briefly served in the United States Air Force before receiving a medical discharge. She went on to work many dedicated years as a security guard, including over 12 years of service with the South Bend Medical Foundation. Joann was known for her strong work ethic, loyalty, and steady presence.

She loved her friends and had a lifelong affection for animals, especially her dogs and cats. Joann also enjoyed crafting homemade wreaths, often made from the grapevines she grew herself — a hobby that brought her joy and creativity.

Joann is survived by her sister, Rosemary Batson, along with a host of extended family members. She is also survived by her sister‑in‑law, Jackie Niver. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Holmes.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place and no services will be held. Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
