Joann R. Matthews, a beacon of faith and generosity in her community, departed from this world peacefully on December 1, 2025, at the age of 72, in South Bend, Indiana. She entered into eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and devoted service.
Joann was born on December 5, 1952, in Plymouth, Indiana, to the late Howard Freeman and Martha (McLean) Matthews. She grew up in a loving household alongside her siblings, the late Virginia Matthews and John Matthews. A proud graduate of Plymouth High School's class of 1970, Joann's spirited determination and compassion for others shone brightly from an early age.
For several years, Joann poured her energy and talents into her career as a traffic manager for a Christian radio station. Her work was more than a job; it was her ministry. Serving the listeners and her co-workers with dedication, Joann became a respected and indispensable member of the radio team, embodying the station's values through her everyday actions and cheerful disposition.
Joann's deep-rooted passion extended beyond the airwaves. Her unwavering commitment to her faith was evident to all who knew her. A long-time member of the Christian Center Church, Joann actively engaged with various ministries. Her devotion to her faith was matched by her passion for the animal kingdom, particularly her beloved cats, which were held in her heart as cherished family members.
At this time per the family’s wishes, there will be no services. Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel is honored to be assisting the family with final arrangements.
