John T. Amber

John Thomas Amber, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, passed away on April 24, 2023, at the age of 65 after a short battle with cancer.

John is survived by his loving wife and soul mate Joan, his mother Jane Friend, his sons Wayne (Danielle) and Justin (Esther), his stepdaughter Alyssa Connor, his grandchildren Nai and Mo, his brothers Eddie Friend (Kathy) and Tommy Friend, and many other loving family members and caring friends. John is preceded in death by Ed Friend and Wayne Amber (fathers), Deb Cira (sister), and Bob Amber (brother).

John was born in Mishawaka, IN in 1957, the second eldest of 5 children. He was intelligent and inventive from a young age and carried that spark through into later life with his move from the corporate world to owning his own successful landscaping business. John always enjoyed the outdoors, a pursuit that he and Joan were able to enjoy throughout their time together, including recent trips to the Rocky Mountains, Spain, and Germany, among others. He was humorous and goofy, in a way that sometimes made us groan, but always brought a smile. As a man of strong Christian faith, he spent the beginning and end of each day with Joan in a brief bible study and prayer.  He held a passion for volunteering for organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, where he relished mentoring his little brother, Alex. John was an exceptionally proud father to Wayne and Justin, he provided them with unconditional love, guidance, and spent time with them as often as he could, especially fishing and golfing. He absolutely adored his grandkids, Nai and Mo, and his title of “Papa John” will have a lasting influence on their lives. We are all better from having known John and he will be missed by all who knew him.

A viewing will be held at 11:00am-1:00pm on May 19, 2023, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. and then a procession to Oak Grove Cemetery in LaPorte, Indiana, and burial. In honor of John’s style, attire will be upscale tropical/beach.
