John Wayne Heilman

John Wayne Heilman, 76 years old, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Center for Hospice in 
Mishawaka. John was born March 31, 1945 in South Bend, to the late William and Anna (Reitz) Heilman. 
In August 1969, John married the love of his life for 50 years, Lynn Maul, who passed away March 29, 
2020. 

John was a lifelong resident of Michiana. John proudly served his country in the United States Army.
John, also known as porter by his long time coworkers, worked locally at UPS prior to retirement at the 
age of 50 years old. He loved spending his time fishing and watching NASCAR. In the most recent 
months he enjoyed Friday afternoon at the casino with his daughter Jonelle. He also had a weakness for 
ice cream and re-runs of Gunsmoke. 

John is survived by his children, Jonelle Heilman of Mishawaka, Chip (Denise) Cochran of Mishawaka and 
Charlie (Rosina) Heilman of Osceola; grandchildren, Brandon Moritz, Robert Moritz, Tyler Cowsert, 
Chase Heilman, Ashley Hall, Allison Cochran, Abbey Cochran and Billy Mosurak; great-grandchildren, 
Sophie, Levi, Aurora, Ryder, Gage, and Jack. 

John is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lynn; daughter, Tresha Moritz; sister, Sharon Weesner; 
brothers, Dean Heilman and William Heilman.

Burial and graveside service will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Southlawn Cemetery, 
61430 US-31, South Bend, IN 46614. Palmer Funeral Home-Bubb Chapel and Southlawn Cremation 
Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
