John Latimer, the husband of Patricia (Dunne) Latimer, died at home in Mishawaka, IN, on November 2nd, surrounded by his family. Born in Erie, PA, to Jack and Georgiana Latimer, he was a big brother to Joseph, Mary Beth, and Kathleen (Decataldo). John’s lifelong commitment to community service began while serving as an altar boy at St. Luke’s Church and earning the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts in Schenectady, NY.
John attended Saint Michael’s College and was a member of the men’s choir. While serving in the Air Force, he married his lifelong partner, Pat, and had their first child, Benham.
John began his career in banking at the Schenectady Trust Company in Schenectady, NY, where his daughter, Kathryn (Latimer) Werda, was born.
John worked at Vermont National Bank in Burlington, VT, served on Winooski’s School Board, and began Boy Scout Troop 58 for Benham and his friends.
John and Pat Latimer lived in Manchester, NH, for thirty-three years. In addition to serving on countless boards of directors, John was an active member of the YMCA, Rotary Club, and Saint Catherine’s Church, where he was a lector and eucharistic minister. When Katie began playing soccer, he became a state-licensed referee.
While living in Mishawaka, IN, John was a member of the Michiana Men’s Choir and enjoyed exercising with his wife and Silver Sneakers friends.
He cherished being “Papa” to his grandchildren: the sons of Katie and David Werda (Calen and Maxwell) and the daughter of Benham and Aubrie Latimer (Sylvia).
John Latimer embodied the values of honor, patriotism, and family he espoused from his parents, faith, and scouting. John Latimer is survived by his wife and a family who loves and respects him, and a world made better by him.
A Memorial Service will be held for John at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel. Friends may visit with family from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
